What Two Disney Princesses Have the Same Voice
Disney Classics brought about many female characters that continue to inspire kids and those who are kids at heart. The Disney Princesses are not only known for their glamour but also for their fierce disposition and ability to conquer challenges. Most memorable, too, are their Broadway-style songs that are catchy and empowering.
Here are some of the singing talents behind the best songs from Disney's Princesses:
Leo Salonga in Mulan and Jasmine in Aladdin
The Filipina singer-actress had the rare opportunity to be the singing voice of not one but two Disney Princesses. Salonga was the singing voice for Jasmine in Aladdin and the titular character in Mulan. She is best known for the role of Kim in Miss Saigon and won plenty of theatre-related awards. The speaking voice for Jasmine was American actress Linda Larkin, while the voice for Mulan was Chinese-American actress Ming Na-Wen.
Idina Menzel in Frozen
The American actress-singer did both the speaking voice and singing voice of Queen Elsa in the hit 3D-animated film Frozen. In that movie, her song "Let It Go" was loved by many, and it won Oscar and Grammy Awards. She also started in Broadway musical such as Rent, Wicked, and If/Then. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame along with Kristin Bell, the actress who played Elsa's sister Anna.
Mandy Moore in Tangled
Amanda Leigh Moore debuts her music career as a teen pop singer with the single "Candy." The song and the album were successful, but some were comparing her to Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears. She continued writing music but tried to move away from the bubblegum pop style. She was also slowly moving towards acting. After some films, she eventually voiced Rapunzel in CG-animated feature film Tangled.
Jodi Benson in The Little Mermaid
Jodi Marie Benson was the voice of Princess Ariel in The Little Mermaid. In 2011, she was recognized as a Disney Legend for her extraordinary contributions to the company. Benson has voiced a ton of characters in television, films, and video games - Barbie, Thumbelina, and Aquagirl, to name a few.
Paige O'Hara in Beauty and the Beast
Born Donna Page Helmintoller, the actress-singer started as a Broadway actress back in 1983. There, she portrayed Ellie May Chipley in the Showboat musical. She has been a fan of Walt Disney Pictures, and, upon reading about an audition for the role in The New York Times, she decided to try auditioning as the movie's lady protagonist Belle. Like Benson, O'Hara was also named a Disney Legend in 2011.
Judy Kuhn in Pocahontas
Kuhn has been nominated for the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre, also known as Tony Award, four times. Speaking of four, she released four studio albums to date. She was the singing voice of Pocahontas, and the song "Colors of the Wind" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The speaking voice for the Native American heroine was Irene Bedard.
Anika Noni Rose in The Princess and the Frog
Rose was the voice of first African-American princess Tiana in the Princess of the Frog. She hoped that the movie would inspire the audience to see African-Americans more positively. In the same year, the animated feature was released, Barack Obama won the presidency. They noted that the coincidence most likely helped to portray African-Americans more positively.
